A Medieval Evening at St Mary’s Church Hornby

In order to celebrate this rich history of St Mary’s Hornby we are holding a Medieval Evening on 25^th March.  This will combine medieval drink, food, and jollity with some fascinating talks about life in Medieval times. 

We are very lucky to have some brilliant speakers: Dr Jeremy Goldberg, Reader in Medieval History at the University of York;  and Erik Matthews,  Director of the Hornby archaeology project.  Erik will set the scene by telling us about the medieval history and archaeology of the local area, and then Dr Goldberg will talk about “Life in the Later Medieval Countryside”, focusing on what life was like for ordinary people 6-700 years ago.

Medieval drinks and bites will be served before and between the talks, and there will be a medieval supper afterwards.

Dr Sue Bianco, our Licensed Lay Minister in the benefice and also a medievalist (having taught Medieval literature for many years) will lead us through a Medieval grace before supper.

The evening will start at 6.00 pm; tickets are £20.00 each (£10 for those under 18’s).
