About Us
St Patrick’s has a close affiliation with the Patrick Brompton Community Events Committee. There are joint ventures which include a monthly coffee morning, and activities such as the Queen’s 90th Birthday celebratory exhibition and our Carol Singing around the village.
The village supports the floodlighting of the church building. A recent interfaith exhibition entitled ‘Weaving Women’s Wisdom’ was hosted in the church; amongst the panels was one from our own deanery.
Our Church Building and Local Community
St Patrick’s Church is grade 1 listed and is a prominent feature in the valley of Lower Wensleydale and stands out as an important landmark in the village which bears its name. Situated four miles from Bedale on the A684, Patrick Brompton was first mentioned in the Domesday Book. The parish also includes the villages of Newton-le-Willows, one mile away, and Hunton, two and a half miles away. Hunton used to have its own church building but this was made redundant towards the end of the last century.
The Old Schoolroom, situated on the village green, hosts many events and a variety of groups including joint coffee mornings, Craft Group, Film Club, quiz nights, Domino Club, Quilting Guild, Glass Engravers Guild, PCC Meetings and Parish Council Meetings.
Newton-le-Willows, which won the ‘2009/10 Calor Village of the Year England Award,’ also has a wide range of groups, activities and networks. A village newsletter is distributed every two months.
